Fourteen years ago, I got married to my wife Ceci. When I got married I had no idea that the devil has an agenda to destroy anywhere where God has created a union. It has been a turbulent seven years with many challenges and many blessings. As my wife and I reach this milestone we come to realize that the purpose of marriage is to bring Glory back to God. God created the union between man and woman in order to prove to the devil and the world that His plan is the ultimate plan and it works.
Matthew 19:6 “So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
One flesh that is being spoken of us in union with God. No man should separate a three fold chord.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 “And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
Early on in our marriage, my wife and I did not include God 100% in our choices. We didn’t use the word to guide all our decisions. We used our own understanding to solve challenges and problems and this was disastrous. On my side as the head, I kept on making worldly decisions without consulting my family and the things went wrong my wife would be at the receiving end of helping me to resolve these problems against her will. We argued and fought a lot.
Bitterness and resentment brewed in the both of us and the devil thrived in our hearts because we did not act the way God would have wanted us to. If not for a number of elder interventions with the word of God our marriage would have scattered. The word of God and His presence is the only reason that we are still together today. The devil thrives on hurt , pain and destruction while God is love and wants to build.
James 4:7 “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”
The devil needs your permission to come into your marriage. He does this through your sin, anger, resentment, bitterness, unfortunately, your lies, sexual immorality, pride and many other ways. James 4:7 talks about resisting the devil, which means that this is an active fight. You have to fight off the devil by killing the needs of the flesh. God’s presence spiritually in your marriage keeps the devil away from it and he cannot destroy it. Divorce is not from God, it is from the devil. Restoration and building is from God.
With what my wife and I have gone through, we have every reason in the eyes of the world to be divorced, but by God’s presence we have managed to restore our marriage a day at a time and start building ourselves to serve God all the days of our lives and resist the devil constantly.
Our prayer is that if you plan to get married or your are already married, God’s presence is the Only way you can find true happiness in your marriage. Don’t let sin and withe world could your judgement. God’s ways are not the ways of the world. Do not use your own understanding but use the word of God, the Bible to guide your every step.
Malachi 2:16 NIV “The man who hates and divorces his wife,” says the Lord , the God of Israel, “does violence to the one he should protect,” says the Lord Almighty. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful.”
Marriage must have God at the center. If you let the world control and confuse your decisions , your marriage will soon be destroyed and you and your children will all eventually suffer for it.
Make the right choices. Make choices in your marriage that God will be proud of. We are living testimony of the power of God in marriage
